Gardening Tips: Dealing With A Bad Year For Your Yard

As much help and information about gardening as I try to provide, whether it be vegetables or flowers, there is occasionally going to be a bad year. You work hard and do everything right, but sometimes Mother Nature just gives you a small crop of veggies or only a few blooms.

Growing up, my mom planted lilac bushes outside our patio. She could hardly wait for the day they would bloom, and how the sweet smell would waft in through the windows. She waitedand waited. Every year, the lilac bush would grow lush with leaves, but never a single flower. My mother did everything possible to get that thing to bloom, but to no avail.

Kuhn Rikon Corn Zipper: an effective kitchen gadget

I love going to my local farmers’ market, the stalls are always packed with fresh produce and there’s such an abundance of colors and smells that I always end up with baskets full of fresh fruit and vegetables.

I prefer seasonal cooking but I also like to buy produce and preserve or freeze it for use later on when it’s scarcer. One of my favorites is fresh corn on the cob. I like it best at the beginning of the season when the kernels are small and sweet. I make the usual corn dishes like chowders, corn pudding and relishes and I also like to add raw kernels to my salads.

Smells Be Gone: Garbage Disposal Cleaning

So, you head over to the sink to get rid of some of this evenings dinner remnants and are suddenly hit with an odor of decay so putrid you run away screaming in terror.

Garbage disposals are meant to be self-cleaning but, occasionally, items that arent supposed to go in there admit it, you put in a few chicken bones and other items get stuck on the side and create an odor that can stink up the entire house.

The best thing you can do is clean out the disposal but remember safety is always the key factor.
