Wine-O Adviser | Heard about the new Parker wine-rating system?

MANY OF YOU, like me, have long followed the reviews of Robert Parker, arguably the most influential wine writer in the world. Parker’s success has been built upon his 100-point rating scale, in which wines from around the world are given point scores as well as written descriptions.

For those unfamiliar with this system, it works like this. If a wine is rated 92 or 93, and you can find it at Trader Joe’s for $5, it’s probably pretty good. A 94- or 95-point wine, sourced from Costco for $8, is even better.

Wines rated 95 points and higher you can’t find, and if you find them, you can’t afford them, so forget about it.

TOOB personal dome screen revamped

The creators of the original TOOB (Think Out Of Box) have spent the last two years researching and developing what they call the “world’s first affordable dome screens”.

The TOOB Earth hopes to bring the IMAX experience into the family home and at an affordable price. It features a 1.2 meter (4ft) diameter half dome which when used with a standard projector can throw an image onto the inside curved surface.

Outsiders plush toys by Atelier Volvox

Slideshow: Zurich designers Atelier Volvox rescued these unloved plush toys and gave them a new lease of life by turning them inside out eyes and all.

Samuel Coendet and Lea Gerber collected the toys from second-hand shops and forgotten corners of nursery schools before cutting them open to reverse th fur.

The Outsiders toys received the Recycling Design Preis 2012 in Germany last week.

Brizo Fashion Week

Last week I had the pleasure of attending Fashion Week in NYC, sponsored on behalf of Brizo Faucet, along with their unique collaboration with fashion designer Jason Wu. The three day event kicked off with a cocktail party where we were introduced to the other 19 bloggers invited to attend, which is now infamously known as Blogger 19 based on the original group of nineteen participating bloggers and designers.

In taking part in the event, we had the opportunity to preview the collections from Brizo, including yet to be released concepts and the inspiration behind the designs.
