A Watering Can for Your “Liquid Gold”

Warning to readers: this post might seem icky to some. As many of us are realizing the dangers of using synthetic fertilizers in our gardens (synthetic fertilizers take a lot of energy to produce and also contain Nitrous Oxide, a greenhouse gas), there’s a more natural solution that we all have in abundance: urine. A Swedish design venture called Guldkanna believes in the fertilizing power of urine so much, that they designed Towa, a cute watering can that comes with a chamber pot. Together, the two elements collect, store, and distribute your “liquid gold” at a specific dilution rate with tap water. Urine is rich in nitrogen, the best plant food there is, and is of course, as natural as it gets. As it turns out, diverting urine from the waste stream has benefits as well, as too much nitrogen (while good for plants) is bad for the water system. Towa is manufactured in Sweden and comes with a detachable spout and user-friendly design for collecting. Check out all the details (if you aren’t sufficiently grossed out) on the Guldkanna website, where you can buy Towa for about $80 USD.
