Movie: Thomas Heatherwick talks about his studios tradition of sending unusual handmade Christmas cards in this interview filmed by Dezeen at Heatherwicks exhibition at the V&A museum in London.

In the movie Heatherwick explains how making Christmas cards as a child led him to introduce the practice at his studio as a way of saying thank you to the people who had helped them throughout the year.

The cards range from minimalist constructions based on just a stamp to more complicated feats of engineering made with the help of local Post Office workers.

The museums curators have accompanied Heatherwicks creations with an example of the worlds first printed Christmas card, published in 1843 by Henry Cole, first director of the V&A Museum.

Heatherwick also talks about creating the UK pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo in 2010 in another of our movies here, and explains his design for a new London bus in our movie here.
