How to Make Simple Homemade Halloween Decorations
I love this time of year. The weather turns brisk, the leaves change color and Halloween is just around the corner. The
stores are filled with tons of Halloween decorations from the whimsical to the macabre, but resist the urge to break the bank on those prefabricated decorations and make your own. Here are some easy Halloween decorations that you can make with your children.
Glow in the Dark Ghosts
This simple decoration only needs some balloons, glow sticks, white cloth, string and a marker. I would suggest making these right around dusk to take full advantage of the eerie glow stick glow.
Break the glow stick to activate it and place inside an balloon that hasnt been blown up yet. Blow up the balloon and tie it off. I would suggest using white or other light colored balloon. You will be able to see the glow stick in the balloon the glow it gives off.
Cut the white cloth in small sheets that will cover the balloons and draw a spooky ghost face on it. Place the sheet over the balloon so that the tie is at the top and tie the string to the tie. Cut a small hole in the sheet and place it over the balloon so that the string comes out of the hole.
The ghost is complete and ready to be hung outside or inside. The glow stick wont last long so try and get the balloons outside as close to dusk as possible.
Egg Carton Bats
Nobody knows what to do with those empty egg cartons once the eggs have all been used up. Why not create a few bats for your belfry. This is a simple and great craft to do with small children. All you will need is scissors, egg carton, small goodly eyes from a craft store and a marker or paint.
Cut the egg carton into sections of three egg holders; one will be the left wing, the middle the head and the last the right wing. The side wings should have semi circles cut into the bottom part to more mimic wings and you can cut fangs in the middle portion if you want.
Using the paint or marker, whichever one your child is most comfortable using, and color the egg carton pieces black. Glue the goodly eyes to the center of each carton piece and you have your very own egg carton bat.
If you are feeling a little fancy, then you can add little touches like glitter and other decorations. The final step is to glue or tie a string to the bats and hang them from the ceiling.
These are some simple crafts for smaller children and this week will be filled with tons of Halloween tips and tricks for all ages. This is my holiday and I will be sharing some of the deepest and darkest tricks of the Halloween trade. Stay tuned.
